Woman injured in gun mishap

Emergency personnel responded shortly after 3:30 p.m. Friday to a property in the area of 2500 Sutterville Road in Fults, following what was reported by emergency radio dispatch to be an accidental self-inflicted shotgun shooting involving a woman.

Monroe County EMS, Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and Maeystown Fire Department personnel rushed to the scene. A Survival Flight medical helicopter was also dispatched for medical transport. Firefighters set up a landing zone at the ballfields in Fults.

The victim, Valerie L. Anderson, 44, was airlifted to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis for treatment of a gunshot wound to the thigh. Anderson told police she was clearing a gun jam when the accident occurred.
