Two weeks into the wrestling season and Waterloo is 5-2, coming off an 11th place finish, with a score of 94, at Saturday’s 16-team Civic Memorial Tournament.

Bulldog junior Pat Bieber took home the first place trophy at the meet, competing in the 182 lb. weight class.

Other Waterloo wrestlers that placed include: Denis Wilson (220 lb. weight class) and Jackson Jennings (170) took third place, Paul Stewart (126) came in fourth, Zach Shaw (106) got seventh and Tyler Mohl (285) won eighth.

“I was hoping we would get a little higher at Civic,” Waterloo wrestling coach Pat Stewart said. “But with four open weight classes, we placed pretty well.”

Waterloo wrestled among the likes of conference power houses, Civic Memorial (1st place), Highland (2nd), and Jerseyville (4th), while sending down four wrestlers for a JV tournament, leaving open four empty spots on Saturday.

“It just shows we have pretty good competition in our conference.”

The Bulldogs will face Althoff and Mater Dei on Tuesday and will compete in the Jerseyville Tournament this weekend.
