Waynolin “Wayne” Wood | Obituary
Waynolin “Wayne” Wood, 85, of Belleville, died June 27, 2015, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 23, 1930, in Dupo, son of the late Fred and Clara Lancaster Wood.
Mr. Wood was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean War. He retired from Granite City Steel.
He was a member of Villa Hills Baptist Church, Moose Lodge in Swansea, Boots & Slippers Square Dance Club in Caseyville, Waterloo Quadrilles Square Dance Club and Gateway Wagoneer Square Dance Camping Club in St. Louis. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping at Cool Creek Resort in Highland.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Sandra J. Wood (nee Bateman); children, Waynolin (Elyse) Wood II of Ozark, Ala., Sherri L. Wood of Belleville, and Catherine L. (Michael) Pasqualone of Belleville; brother Lavern (Martha) Wood of East Carondelet; sister Helen Kolb of Belleville; grandchildren Jason (Jane), Josh (Leigh), Chet (Katie), Donald, Jonathan, Skylar and Clay; and eight great-grandchildren. He was also a dear uncle, cousin and friend to all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ralph Wood and sisters Jean Wood Barnett Haeman and Marion Wood Vernon.
A gathering of family and friends will be held July 2, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Braun Family Funeral Home, Columbia. Services will be held at 7 p.m., Reverend James Carter officiating.
A procession will leave at 9:15 a.m., on Friday, July 3, from the funeral home, going to Jefferson
Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.
Private cremation was held.
