Waterloo shines love light for Elsa

Elsa Wiemerslage

The community is rallying in support of a young Waterloo girl in her fight against cancer.

Elsa Wiemerslage, a kindergarten student at Zahnow Elementary, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on Oct. 29 and is currently undergoing treatment. She is the daughter of Kevin and Adrienne Wiemerslage, who are expecting their third child this month.

Friends and neighbors of Elsa’s family have created fund-raising avenues to assist with medical bills that are expected to mount as part of the young girl’s battle.

A GoFundMe account (www.gofundme.com/vj7zw6tt) created online has already raised more than $15,000 as of Tuesday.

In addition, the House of Neighborly Service in Monroe County has set up a fund where donations can be made to help the family during this difficult time. These donations are tax deductible and 100 percent will go to Elsa’s family.

“Elsa is a strong little girl and we know she can do this with the prayers and support of the community,” the House of Neighborly Service posted on its Facebook page.

Those wishing to donate can make checks payable to “HNS Elsa’s Fund” and mail to: P.O. Box 367, Waterloo, IL 62298. For more information, email HNSPhoneLine@gmail.com or call 939-8680.
Neighbors Nicole and Mike Walter of the Quail Ridge subdivision organized a “Light the Town Orange for Elsa” night this past Sunday…>>>
