Waterloo Lead Heads win regional shooting event

Shooters from nine states converged on the World Shooting & Recreational Complex in Sparta April 4-6 for the Scholastic Clay Target Program Midwest Regional.

Among the 384 competitors were 12 members of the Waterloo Lead Heads shooting team.

After a total of 53,600 competition targets were thrown, the Lead Heads team came out on top with High Overall honors.

The skeet senior varsity team of Kyle Leckrone, Austin Heffner and Willie Wessel placed first out of 16 squads. Leckrone was the second overall individual and Heffner was third overall.

The open class trap team of Leckrone, Brittany Mehner, Megan Vogt, Cooper Secker and Ryan Nabers placed firsy out of 22 squads. Mehner placed second in the ladies varsity division and Vogt placed fifth.

The sporting clays senior varsity team of Heffner, Leckrone and Wessel placed third out of 13 squads. The intermediate trap team of Cody Elder, Jacob Earll, Remy Heinen, Jacob Lattimore and Jesse Stevens placed fourth out of 20 squads.
