The Republic-Times Team of the Week is the Waterloo Buds baseball squad coached by Barry Grant. The Buds won 2-1 over the St. Louis Printers in walk-off fashion to open this year’s Valmeyer Midsummer Classic wooden bat tournament at Borsch Park, then downed the St. Louis Spikes by a 7-2 count Saturday to reach the tourney final. On Sunday, the Buds won 5-2 over the defending champion Valmeyer Lakers to take the top trophy. It was the 14th Midsummer Classic championship in Buds history.
