Warriors suffer first loss

The Waterloo Warriors 18U baseball squad finally fell from the ranks of the unbeaten, but the team is still playing well with the postseason just around the corner.

The Warriors are 13-1 overall, with that lone loss coming Monday at Chaminade in a St. Louis Amateur Baseball Association road game. The 3-2 defeat came in walk-off fashion, with Brian Lance going 2-for-4 and Ty Frierdich going 1-for-3 with two RBIs for the Warriors. 

The next game for the Warriors is at SPPS Field in Waterloo this Thursday night against 618 Storm 18U. First pitch is at 6 p.m. 

The SLABA playoffs are slated to start next week.  

Top hitters for the Warriors so far this season include Kaleb Buechler (.692 average, 12 RBIs, 13 runs), Lance (.500 average, 15 stolen bases, 21 runs) and Chase Castello (.429 average, 10 runs).

Top pitchers for the Warriors include righthander Jack Roessler (3-0, 0.64 ERA, 30 strikeouts) and lefthander Brady Biffar (3-0, 1.47 ERA, 32 strikeouts).
