Vehicle break-ins reported in Waterloo

Waterloo police are investigating a number of unlawful vehicle entries reported over the weekend on Cody Drive, Summerfield Drive, Shamrock Drive and Stonefield Drive off Vandebrook Drive in the southern part of Waterloo. Several unlocked cars were reportedly entered, with loose change and cigarettes among the items stolen. A purse was also stolen. Officers are handling the crimes as criminal trespassing to motor vehicles and theft from motor vehicles.

“We have had over 20 vehicle burglaries in the Vandebrook and Sunset Acres areas of unlocked vehicles since Aug. 29,” Waterloo Police Chief Jim Trantham said. “I know we have some people not reporting the thefts and we really need people to make the report so we know the extent of the problem so it can be addressed.”

Trantham also reminded the community to lock their vehicles and keep all property out of site or put valuables in the trunk when parking vehicles outside.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 939-3377.
