The Valmeyer police and fire departments responded about 2 a.m. Sunday to a fully engulfed semi tractor-trailer on fire near the village dump site in the 7300 block of Bluff Road.

The doors of the trailer were open upon arrival and there were no contents inside, police said. The semi, which was completely destroyed in the fire, was stolen from a truck stop outside of Monroe County and dumped at that location. The truck was unoccupied at the time of the blaze, police said.

Due to the nature of the incident, an arson investigator was contacted in addition to the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
