Valmeyer Jr. High baseball team repeats as state champs

The Valmeyer Junior High School baseball team won its second straight SIJHSAA Class S state title Friday afternoon in Coulterville with a dominating 11-0 win over Aviston.

VJHS won its third straight regional title last month, 11-1 over New Athens at home, to advance to the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association Class S state tournament in Coulterville.

The Pirates, who won the state tourney last year, defeated Dodds on Oct. 4, and then advanced to the Class S final with an eighth-inning victory over Steeleville on Oct. 8.
