Unlocked vehicles targeted again in Columbia

Police are investigating after at least two unlocked vehicles were unlawfully entered early Friday morning in Columbia.

Columbia Police Chief Jason Donjon said his department received a call about two suspicious individuals walking around the Columbia Lakes subdivision at about 3:30 a.m. With assistance from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Columbia police searched the area for over an hour but did not locate the individuals or observe any suspicious vehicles.

As of late Friday morning, police have received two reports of vehicles entered in that area of Columbia. So far, a wallet from an unlocked truck was the only item reported stolen. Bank cards from the stolen wallet were used in north St. Louis city a short time after the theft was believed to have occurred.

Anyone with information related to these incidents is asked to call the Columbia Police Department at 618-281-5151.

Similar incidents occurred July 29 in a different area of Columbia, with one unlocked vehicle stolen.
