The Republic-Times Athlete of the Week is Valmeyer Junior American Legion baseball catcher Tyler Kempfer.

He went 3-for-3 in the first game of the Fifth Division tournament at Metropolis over the weekend, then capped off the team’s third place finish with two two-run home runs in a 9-1 victory on Monday.

Kempfer is hitting .368 with 23 RBIs, 29 runs scored and a .509 slugging percentage this summer.
