Thursday morning crash in Columbia

Columbia police, fire and EMS responded about 8 a.m. Thursday to a report of a vehicle that went off the road and struck a tree along Rueck Road just east of the Lakefield subdivision.

Part of the vehicle ended up in the edge of a lake off the roadway.

Police said a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Andrew Crites, 17, of Columbia, was traveling east on Rueck when it lost control in the snow on a curve, traveled off the roadway and struck a tree, ending up partially submerged in a small lake.

Crites and another 17-year-old occupant of the car were able to exit the vehicle safely, but were transported to St. Anthony’s Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Crites was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
