Emergency personnel responded shortly before 11:45 a.m. Thursday to a two-vehicle crash on Route 3 at North Main Street in Columbia.

Police said a 2026 Honda SUV driven by Sonja Giffhorn, 77, of Waterloo, was traveling north on Route 3 and turned left toward Sand Bank Road on a flashing yellow arrow, resulting in a collision with a 2017 Ford SUV driven by Kathleen Yaekel, 71, of Columbia, which was southbound on Route 3.

Giffhorn, who was transported to Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County, was cited for failure to yield turning left.
