Sylvester C. Biffar, 84, of Waterloo, died Jan. 18, 2016, in Waterloo.
He was born Nov. 25, 1931, in Waterloo, son of the late George and Martha Biffar (nee Reinhardt).
Sylvester was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society.
He is survived by his wife, Leona Biffar (nee Weber); children Jane (Dennis) Asselmeier, Judy (Richard) Heck, Alan (Rita) Biffar, John (Anne) Biffar and Rita Polka; daughter-in-law Lisa Biffar; grandchildren Christopher (Michele) Heck, Matthew (Jessica) Asselmeier, Joshua (Melanie) Biffar, Nicole Deaton, Kelly (David) Chomhirun, Andrew (Allison) Biffar, Dana Biffar, Anthony Polka, Amy Polka, Shane Biffar, Magdalen Biffar and Aaron Shields; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law JoAnn Biffar; and nieces, nephews and cousins; along with his two loyal dogs, Rosie and Ace.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons Joseph and Leon Biffar; sisters Loretta (Joseph) Schaefer and Priscilla (Armin) Vogt; a sister in infancy; and brothers Lawrence (Arline) Biffar and Eugene Biffar.
Visitation is Jan. 20, from 3 to 8 p.m., and Jan. 21, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home, Waterloo.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Jan. 21, at 10 a.m., at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Waterloo, with Father Osang Idagbo C.M. officiating
Interment will follow at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Waterloo.
As an expression of sympathy the family prefers memorial contributions to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
