A vehicle stolen Thursday morning in Belleville made its way into Monroe County before speeding west into St. Louis County.

Shortly before 10:15 a.m., an Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network alert was broadcast to metro east law enforcement after a black Hyundai with Missouri plates was reported stolen in Belleville and seen traveling out of that city.

A member of the Metro East Auto Theft Task Force pursued the stolen vehicle, which was observed about 10:30 a.m. on I-255 southbound and then westbound.

A Columbia officer attempted to slow the vehicle with spike strips on I-255, but was unsuccessful.

The stolen vehicle was last seen on I-255 westbound near Telegraph Road.
