Songs4Soldiers honors its fourth veteran

Kevin Crook

Songs4Soldiers has honored its fourth veteran, Kevin Crook of Columbia.

Crook deployed to Iraq in March 2005 as a pilot. In May 2006, he was involved in a helicopter crash during a training mission in Fort Polk, and his injuries prevented him from further duties as a pilot. Crook redeployed to Iraq in August 2007 for 18 months, and during this deployment he was thrown from the blast waves of an insurgent rocket attack.

To help Crook regain some independence, doctors wanted him to obtain a service dog. Previously, Crook thought it was impossible to have a service dog because of his children’s dog allergies. After many months of searching, was was introduced to the American Service Dog Association and paired with Adina, a standard Poodle that does not cause any health concerns for his family.

Songs4Soldiers has provided Crook with a year of dog grooming, a mobility support harness, service dog vest, food and water bowl, dog bed, gate, kennel, leash, collar, and some other supplies needed for his service dog.

The next Songs4Soldiers concert will take place 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, outside of Schnucks in Columbia.
