Smithton couple injured in UTV incident

A Smithton couple was injured in an incident Saturday evening involving a UTV at the Lake of the Ozarks.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, a 2021 Kawasaki UTV driven by Rona L. Welsch, 57, of Camdenton, Mo, was backing up to a concrete retaining wall at 212 Siesta Circle in Camden County, Mo. Bonnie S. Christian, 66, and Kevin S. Christian, 67, both of Smithton, were standing behind the UTV guiding the driver backwards when Welsch accelerated and struck both pedestrians.

Kevin Christian was airlifted to Columbia University Hospital with serious injuries. Bonnie Christian was transported by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital with moderate injuries, per police.
