The Waterloo Police Department is seeking information from the public as it investigates a “smash and grab” incident that occurred early Monday morning at Hibbett Sports, 915 N. Illinois Route 3.

Officer were dispatched to a burglar alarm sounding at that location at about 3:30 a.m. Upon arrival, police discovered the front glass door had been smashed out. The responding officer was able to see that clothing was strewn about on the floor inside the store and near the front door.

Police searched the business and secured the building before calling in the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit to process the scene.

“The Waterloo Police Department is currently working with Hibbett Sports Asset Protection and other police agencies having similar incidents involving Hibbett Sports in their jurisdictions,” a WPD news release states.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Waterloo police at 939-8651.

Hibbett Sports was open for business as usual as of Monday afternoon.
