The Valmeyer Fire Department was called out to assist Valmeyer police and other responders in searching for a missing person in the caves of Gateway Cold Storage, located at Rock City, 1429 Boulder Boulevard.

The call for assistance went out about 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Valmeyer police said an officer was conducting routine patrols in that area when a male employee of Gateway Cold Storage saw the police car and darted away, prompting the search.

Police eventually made contact with the individual at a location outside of the caves and determined that he is OK, but declined further comment as the incident remains under investigation.
