The Republic-Times Athletes of the Week are Gibault golfer Sam Range and Waterloo High School golfer Haley Faus. A senior, Range advanced to his fourth straight state golf tournament by shooting an even-par 72 last Tuesday at Governor’s Run in Carlyle to lead all golfers in the Class 1A Wesclin Sectional. Range also posted the overall low score at regional.

After shooting a 77 on Friday in the IHSA state golf tourney at Prairie Vista Golf Course, Range closed out his high school career with a 76 on Saturday to finish in eighth place, earning a medal.

Faus, a junior, also advanced to this weekend’s state golf tourney, shooting a 76 at Tuesday’s Class A Zeigler Sectional. She advanced to sectional along with the WHS girls golf team, which placed second as a team at the regional.

Faus improved on her 84-shot first round on Friday at state by shooting an 80 on Saturday — good for a three-way tie for 16th place to finish the Class 1A IHSA state tournament.
