Emergency personnel responded about 6:20 p.m. Friday to a rollover crash reported in the area of 4247 Floraville Road north of Waterloo Road in rural St. Clair County.

The Waterloo Fire Department, Hecker Fire Department, Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, Medstar EMS and Monroe County EMS all responded to the crash scene.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department said a 2003 Chrysler Sebring convertible driven by Cory Pike, 30, of Missouri, was driving recklessly and passed another vehicle on the right shoulder of Floraville Road at a high rate of speed, clipping another vehicle and eventually veering off the roadway to the left, going airborne before rolling multiple times.

Police are not yet certain if Pike was ejected from the car or if he crawled out on his own. He was airlifted by Arch medical helicopter to Saint Louis University Hospital for treatment of serious but not life-threatening injuries.

“Speed was definitely a contributing factor in this crash,” St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Adam Quirin said.

The crash remains under investigation.
