Serious injury crash near Red Bud

Emergency personnel responded shortly after 10:40 p.m. July 4 to a serious multi-vehicle crash with injuries on Route 3 near J Road about three miles north of Red Bud in Monroe County.

Illinois State Police said that Matthew Notter, 22, of Red Bud, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Route 3 when his truck crossed the center line and clipped southbound driver Amy McGuire, 39, of Columbia, who had a 20-year-old passenger from Red Bud in her 2008 Honda Accord.

Notter then hit head-on a southbound 2012 GMC Sierra driven by Elizabeth Rollins, 39, of Red Bud.

Rollins was transported to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis via ambulance with serious injuries. A 13-year-old passenger in her truck was transported to St. Louis Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

Notter, who is a Waterloo High School graduate, was airlifted to Barnes in critical condition.

Family members said Notter remained hospitalized as of Tuesday.

That portion of roadway was closed to traffic until shortly after 4 a.m. July 5 as ISP performed accident reconstruction.

The crash remains under investigation.
