Prairie du Rocher continues Twelfth Night Ball tradition

Pictured is the court, front row, from left, page Madison Vaneroy with outgoing king Lane Leonard; new king and queen John and Jane McKee of Shiloh; outgoing queen Dusty Elner and page Alyssa Hahn; back row: Hannah Finnerty, Steve Placht, Scott and Teresa Kohlenberger, Patti Randolph and Bill Randolph.

The evening’s highlight was selection of a new king, queen and court.  At 9 p.m., a cake cut into hundreds of pieces and containing three beans was served to all the men present, along with cups of punch – or wassail – for everyone.

The first man to find a bean in his cake was designated king.  The next three were designated as the court. Each man then selected a lady to be his queen or female member of the court.

John McKee of Shiloh was chosen as this year’s king. He chose his wife, Jane, as queen.
