Two men were arrested following a theft at Walmart that resulted in a police pursuit which carried over into south St. Louis County. The incident took place about 6:45 p.m. Monroe County Sheriff’s Department deputies, who were getting gas at U-Gas, observed the suspect vehicle leaving the Walmart parking lot and followed the car north on Route 3. This turned into a chase in the area of Hanover Road and continued through Columbia onto I-255 into St. Louis County, resulting in the car being stopped behind the South County Walmart and suspects apprehended. All items reported stolen from the Waterloo Walmart — a microwave, power tools and clothing — were recovered. The car’s driver, Terrance Higgins, 41, was taken into custody by St. Louis County Police on felony warrants. Charges of retail theft and aggravated fleeing are pending in Monroe County. The passenger, Demarcus Lewis, 32, of Cahokia, was also arrested for retail theft but those charges were later dropped.
