Paul A. Herzog | Obituary

Paul A. Herzog, 69, of Prairie du Rocher, died May 18, 2016, in St. Louis.

He was born Dec. 10, 1946, in St. Louis, son of the late Thomas and Mary Herzog (nee Deterding).

He married the former Carol Faye Bievenue on July 22, 1972, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairie du Rocher.

Mr. Herzog was a life-time farmer.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher, and served on the parish council. Paul was very active in his community and served on the Prairie du Rocher Public School Board; the board of the Prairie du Rocher Volunteer Fire Department, on which he served as President of the Board for six years; and the Board of Directors for the Randolph County Farm Bureau.

Paul was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #622 and served as Sgt. At Arms and Commander. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post #6632 in Red Bud and was commander from 1973-74. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League in Randolph County.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Herzog of Prairie du Rocher; sons Jason (Sarah) Herzog of Halethorpe, Md., Jarret (Sherri) Herzog of Prairie du Rocher, Brian (Veronica) Herzog of Everett, Wash., and Craig (Monica) Herzog of Belleville; grandchildren Karleigh, Aleighna, Cassandra, Joshua, Jada, Jesse and Cameron; siblings Pat (Debra) Herzog of Beardstown, Don (Sandy) Herzog of Hudson, Mass., Joan (Steve) Monrotus    of Farmington, Mo., Ann (Bill Thompson) Herzog of Washington, DC, and Mark Herzog of Prairie du Rocher; mother-in-law Ethel Bievenue of Chester; brothers-in-law Mike (Anita) Bievenue of Chester, and Tom (Betty) Bievenue of Prairie du Rocher; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Orville Bievenue.

Visitation is May 22, from 4 to 8 p.m., and May 23, from 8 to 9:15 a.m., at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home, Red Bud.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated May 23, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairie du Rocher, Msgr. Daniel J. Jurek officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Prairie du Rocher.
