Online voter registration now offered in Illinois
On Tuesday, Illinois became the 20th state to offer online voter registration as a way to get more citizens involved in the process.
Illinois residents can now register to vote on their computers or smart phones.
When prospective voters visit https://ova.elections.il.gov, they’ll need an Illinois driver’s license or state-issued ID card, the last four digits of their social security number and current address.
This information is transmitted to the Illinois Secretary of State’s office, which then transmits the signature from the driver’s license back to election officials. The signature already on record with the state becomes the signature used to identify voters at the polling place.
For more information on the voter registration process, contact the Monroe County Clerk’s Office at 939-8681, ext. 302.
Other state measures that went into effect on July 1 includes Senate Bill 1307, which lowers the age at which children must be enrolled in school from seven to six years old. It will begin with the 2014-15 school year and apply to children six years old or older on Sept. 1 of each year.
Other bills going into effect July 1 includes House Bill 3724, which requires training on how to administer CPR and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator in all high schools in the state.
A new state health care measure would allow patients to get their flu shots at their dentist’s offices, State Sen. Dave Luechtefeld reports. Senate Bill 3409 allows dentists with the appropriate training to administer flu vaccines to patients 18 years of age or older who have a prescription or physician’s order for the immunization.
