Norman D. Kutterer

Norman D.  Kutterer, 92, of Columbia, died April 3, 2016, in Columbia.

He was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Cairo, son of the late George Robert and Genevieve Kutterer (nee Patterson).

Norman was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Parish in Waterloo, Knights of Columbus Council #1334 — Fourth Degree, Columbia American Legion Post 581, Columbia Historical Society and St. Vincent De Paul. He also volunteered at numerous organizations.

He was also a World War II veteran, attaining the rank of corporal TEC5 in the U.S. Army. He served as an artilleryman and was a Purple Heart recipient. He served in campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, the Battle of The Bulge, Rhineland and central Europe.

Norman was also vice president and director of the Oerter Foundation since it started in 1987 and president and director of the Norman Kutterer Family Foundation.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Kutterer (nee Schaffer); children George R. (Emilia) Kutterer, Suzanne (Joseph) Kutterer-Siburt and Stephanie (Phillip) Kutterer-Bond; grandchildren Leilani (Chris) Landry, Amanda (Aaron) Siburt-Schnaus, Sarah Siburt and John (Lisa) Kehrer; great-grandchildren Sabrina Kehrer, Mia Kehrer, Olivia Kehrer, Marlina Landry and Kinzie Paige Schnaus; sisters Mary Reitz and Beth (John) Holtschlag; sisters-in-law Catherine Kutterer, Margaret Kutterer and Maxine Ziebold-Schaffer; brother-in-law James (Janet) Schaffer; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Thomas and Leo Kutterer, brothers-in-law Harry Schaffer and Fritz Reitz, and mother- and father-in-law Harry and Louise Schaffer (nee Schmidt).

At Norman’s request, his body was donated to St. Louis University School of Medicine.

A memorial visitation will be April 9, from 8 to 9 a.m., at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

A memorial Mass will be April 9, at 9 a.m., at the church, Father Osang Idagbo C.M. officiating.

Arrangements were handled by Quernheim Funeral Home.

As an expression of sympathy the family prefers memorial contributions to St. Vincent DePaul — Columbia, Waterloo, or E. St. Louis Councils; St. Louis VA Fischer House at Jefferson Barracks; the Jefferson Barracks Volunteer Office; St. Anthony’s Cancer Research; or VITAS Hospice.
