The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department responded shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a crop-dusting helicopter down in a field in the area of 9500 D Road near Columbia.

The pilot, Josh Shiver of Collinsville, told the Republic-Times at the scene that he was spraying fungicide over one of Glenn Stumpf’s wheat fields in a Robinson R44 helicopter when the engine apparently cut out, causing a “slide-on” landing in the field.

Shiver was not injured in the crash and the Federal Aviation Administration was notified of the incident, as per typical procedure.
