Just before 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, Waterloo Fire Department and Monroe County EMS units made an early departure from the Porta Westfalica Festival parade in downtown Waterloo for a two-vehicle crash with injuries on LL Road east of Kaskaskia Road just south of St. Joe.

Waterloo and Maeystown fire departments, along with Monroe County EMS and Columbia Ambulance Service, joined the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department in responding to the scene of the head-on crash between a tan 2000 Chevy Silverado driven by Bailie Potts, 20, of Columbia, and a white 2016 Nissan Altima driven by Owen Bolser, 19, of Waterloo.

First responders contacted Survival Flight, which declined to fly, as did the other air ambulance services in the region, citing incoming severe weather, sending dispatchers scrambling to locate medical assistance.

All told, four ambulances responded to the crash site, transporting patients to area hospitals. The extent of injuries is unknown. There were four total occupants inside the car and two occupants in the truck. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate occupants from both vehicles. Both drivers were transported to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis County.

Police are still investigating the crash.
