Mon-Clair All-Stars set to shine at GCS

Every year, the best baseball players from the Mon-Clair and Clinton County baseball leagues battle it out for bragging rights.

That tradition continues this Saturday with a 3 p.m. game at GCS Ballpark in Sauget before the Gateway Grizzlies host the Frontier Greys.

A number of local players will represent the Mon-Clair All-Stars in the game.

Among the starting position players will be Waterloo’s Craig Ohlau (first base) and Larry Schimsa (third base), Millstadt’s Mitch Matecki (second base), Tony Kossina (shortstop) and Jared Mueth (outfield). Valmeyer’s Ben Thoma will replace starting centerfielder Mike Tallis of the St. Louis Spikes.

All-Star pitchers include Waterloo’s Jeremy Rettig and Nick Dunning and Valmeyer’s DJ Dillenberger. Andy Skaer, who is 4-1 this summer, will replace Dunning for Saturday’s game.
