A sex offender from Missouri was charged Monday with criminal sexual assault following an incident reported Dec. 27 in Columbia.

Columbia police said Patrick A. Gill, 42, of St. Charles, Mo., was taken into custody by detectives Monday on the felony charge. An arrest warrant was issued last week.

Gill is currently being held at the Monroe County Jail in Waterloo on $50,000 bond. He is a registered sex offender in Missouri, police said.

“The Columbia Police Department, along with St. Charles County, Mo., law enforcement agencies, had been actively searching for Gill since Dec. 27,” Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards said.

Columbia police were called to a residence on Brookfield Court during the morning of Dec. 27, after a woman reported that she had been sexually assaulted.
