Mary Jean Hartrum | Obituary

Mary Jean Hartrum, nee Prather, 63, of Waterloo, died Dec. 4, 2014 in St. Louis, Mo.

She was born Sept. 5, 1951 in Indianapolis, Ind., daughter of the late Harry Sr. and Dorothy Prather, nee Balling.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waterloo,was a Sunday School teacher, a teacher in the Cahokia School District, Centerville Schools and Phi Beta Kappa honor society.

She was a selfless woman who was always willing to give of herself. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, kindness and love to pass on.

She is survived by her children, Deanna Wolff, Sarah Decareaux, Elizabeth Hartrum, Richard (Roxanne) Hartrum and David Hartrum; grandchildren Jacob Harrold, Megan Wolff, Hailey Harrold, Kate Decareaux, Nicholas Wolff, Riddick Whelan, Finn Decareaux, Michael Hartrum, Elise Decareaux, Magdalene Hartrum and Eleanor Hartrum; brothers Harry Prather Jr. and John (Nancy) Prather; sister Lee (Charles) Jerls; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Keith G. Hartrum, grandsons Dominic and Grant Decareaux, son-in-law David P. Decareaux Jr., brothers Edward Giglotto and Charles Anthony Giglotto.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7 and 8 to 10 a.m. Dec. 8 at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Dec. 8 at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo.
