Marvin Stott

Marvin L. Stott, 84, of Waterloo, formerly of Dupo, died Oct. 4, 2015, in Columbia.

Stott was born Aug. 15, 1931, in East St. Louis, son of the late Robert and Linnie Stott (nee Garvey).

Marvin was a member of First Baptist Church of Dupo, which he joined in August 2005 when he was baptized with his two youngest grandsons. He attended church regularly and especially enjoyed the PTL group activities.

After serving in the United States Air Force, Marvin returned to serve the village of Dupo, where he served in many roles, including restaurant and movie theatre owner, diaper service owner, as well as proudly serving the village and citizens of Dupo as a member of the village board for 20 years.

He had an extensive knowledge of the history and people of Dupo, and he loved to research and share this information. He worked diligently to preserve memories of Dupo’s past.

He also worked as a vice president of Signet Graphics, and he enjoyed working at Columbia Golf Club. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

His survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lora Faulkner Stott; children Cynthia (Gregg) Groce, Conan (Sharon) Stott and Mark Stott; grandchildren Alexander Groce, Trevor Groce, Ethan Groce, Dylan Groce and Michelle Smith; sister Ruth (Adrian “Larry”) Lowry; nieces, nephews; many other relatives and friends; and his dog, Addie, one of the many beloved pets Marvin had over the years.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his step-father Henry Joshu, and his brothers Donald (Elsa “Tete”) and Robert Lloyd (Connie) Stott.

Per his request, he was cremated.

Following an Oct. 11 memorial service at First Baptist Church of Dupo, his remains were interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for consideration of donations to The First Baptist Church of Dupo, The Alzheimer’s Association, Vitas Hospice Organization, Fairview Heights, or Monroe County Humane Society.
