Marcia S. Hahn | Obituary
Marcia S. Hahn (nee Chase), 69, of Columbia, died Nov. 29, 2015, in St. Louis.
She was born Jan. 21, 1946, in East St. Louis, daughter of the late George and Josephine Chase (nee Bailey).
Mrs. Hahn started her business career in her family’s business, Chase Moving & Storage in East St. Louis. She and her husband, Kenneth, then opened her their own business, Rooster’s Health Food Store, in Columbia on Feb. 10, 1995. They have successfully operated the store for more than 20 years with the philosophy of being health advisers, not health suppliers.
That mentality of being a helper, not a seller, has allowed Marcia to become an icon, not just in the small business world but in her community as well. She was a member of C.R.O.W.N. (Columbia’s Resourceful Organization of Women Networking) and the Columbia Chamber of Commerce.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are her loving husband of 51 years, Kenneth L. Hahn; children Jennifer (Derek) Carr, of Waterloo, Joelle Hahn, of St. Louis and Paul Hahn of Waterloo; grandchildren Bradley G. Hoffmann, Summer L. Kolmer, Thomas J. Carr, Joseph C. Schaefer, Emma C. Schaefer, Samuel M. Hahn, Nicholas R. Hahn and Grace R. Hahn; brother Ronald (Renda) Chase of Columbia; sister Barbara (James) Pace of Waterloo; and many nieces, nephews, other family and community members, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Jessica Elizabeth Hahn in infancy.
A private family service was held at Lake View Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, Fairview Heights.
A celebration of Marcia’s life will be held at The Falls Reception and Conference Center, Columbia, on Saturday, Dec. 19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Siteman Cancer Center, St. Louis.
