Majkas celebrate 50th anniversary

Joseph J. Majka and Constance C. Majka on July 31, 1965

July 31, 1965, was the day 50 years ago that Joseph J. Majka and Constance C. Majka were united in Holy Matrimony.

The wedding took place at the former St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Fairview Heights. The late Father Albert Jermone officiated. Joe’s brother Tom was the best man and Connie’s sister Judy was the matron of honor.

Joe retired from the East St. Louis Fire Department as a captain with 27 years of service, working concurrently the last 17 years with the United States Marshal Service as a Special Deputy. After that the worked as a Court Security Officer in the Federal Court System for another 16 years and is retired now.

The Majkas today

Connie has worked a total of 16 years with AT&T and 19 years in banking, the last three years with Midland States Bank in Waterloo.

A dinner was held on their anniversary that included their children Dan and Lori and their families. A trip is planned in the fall the North Carolina and down the East Coast to the Florida Keys and back up the west coast of Florida with stops along the way home.

Andrea is a graduate of Gibault High School and the University of Missouri School of Journalism, the University of Missouri Harry S Truman School of Public Affairs and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville College of Education. She lives in Columbia with her husband and their twin toddler sons.
