Locals shine at girls bowling tourney

Pictured is the Columbia High School girls bowling squad after winning the Mike Gebke Memorial Foundation Invitational in New Baden on Saturday. 

The 2024 Mike Gebke Memorial Foundation and Brefeld Gas Girls High School Invitational took place Saturday at Baden Bowl in New Baden on Saturday, with multiple locals making high marks. 

The Columbia High School girls bowling team won the tournament after firing a 926 in the final game of its six-game set, during which they averaged just under 170 per bowler each game.  

Columbia was led by All-Tournament Team member Abi Owen, who averaged 192 per game over the six games. Her Eagles teammates Maddie Brandenburger and Emma Matsantonis joined Owen in the top 10 individually, averaging 185 and 171, respectively.  

Owen received a scholarship sponsored by S/S Insurance Agency in New Baden.

Dupo’s Maddie Ehrhard was the tournament’s individual champion, throwing games of 225, 235, 235, 225, 187 and 214 to lead her team to a fifth place finish. Ehrhard’s performance earned her All-Tournament Team honors and a scholarship sponsored by Brefeld Gas in Trenton. 

Other teams in this tournament included Breese Central, Mater Dei, Wesclin, Althoff and Christ Our Rock.
