Local golfers take to the greens

High school boys golf squads have been busy on area courses, some with impressive results.

Columbia shot a 154 to win over Freeburg on the Annbriar front nine last Wednesday. Nolan Antonini and John Cygnarowicz each shot a 36 to lead the Eagles. Andrew Wittenauer was next with a 38.

Also last Wednesday, Waterloo shot a 175 to fall to O’Fallon by 12 strokes at Acorns. Tommy Carr shot a 41 to lead the Bulldogs. He was followed by Sam Kreinberg at 43 and Aaron Lloyd at 44.

The Columbia, Waterloo and Gibault boys golf teams all participated in the Carbondale Terrier Two-Man Scramble at Hickory Ridge on Friday.

Columbia placed third out of 16 schools, led by Kyle Steve and Brandon Harm with a 69. Wittenauer and Antonini shot a 70 and Drew Nowak and Cygnarowicz shot a 72.
