The Waterloo High School girls golf team advanced out of last Wednesday’s Class A Althoff Regional by placing second, and three Columbia High School golfers joined them at the Zeigler Sectional, which took place Tuesday.

Sectional golf results were not available at press time.

All local golfers were hoping to advance to the state tournament, which is set to take place this Friday and Saturday at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur.

Althoff took first place at regional with a 352, followed by Waterloo at 382. As a team, Columbia placed fourth with a score of 411. Only the top three teams at regional advance out of sectional play, along with the  top 10 individuals.

Waterloo’s Haley Faus posted the overall low score of the regional with an 80 at Stonewolf Golf Course.

She was followed by teammates Kaitlyn Storm (91), Makensy Umscheid (98), Destiny Restoff (113), Remy Heinen (113) and Shelbi Westmoreland (120).

Advancing as individuals from Columbia were Clara Taake (96), Katie Staelins (103) and Hannah Erpenbach (104).
