Waterloo High School track athletes Genna Bourgeois and Hannah Finnerty advanced to state with fine performances Thursday at the Class 2A Triad Sectional.

Gibault’s Victoria Younge and Dupo’s Leia Campbell advanced out of the Class 1A Nashville Sectional on Friday to also qualify for state.

Bourgeois placed first in the high jump with a jump of five feet. Finnerty ran the 100 meter hurdles in a state-qualifying time of 15.87 seconds to finish fourth.

Both will compete this weekend in the Class 2A meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

“They really deserve every accomplishment they have,” WHS track coach Larry Huffman said. “They work really hard at practice and are role models for the team.”
