Lenhardt plays in NCAA tourney

Waterloo High School graduate Ty Lenhardt played 28 games this season for the Illinois College basketball team

A former Waterloo High School basketball standout saw action in the NCAA Division III Tournament this past weekend in St. Louis as a member of the Illinois College hoops team.

Illinois College dropped a heartbreaking 68-67 overtime decision to Washington University in the second round of the tournament played Saturday at Wash U’s Field House.

With the loss, the Blueboys’ milestone season came to an end with a 24-5 overall record.

Playing in the program’s third ever NCAA tournament, Illinois College reached the second round for the first time after winning both the Midwest Conference regular season and tournament titles for the second consecutive year.

On Friday, the Blueboys opened NCAA tourney play in St. Louis with a 59-57 win over Dubuque.

Ty Lenhardt, a 6-foot-4 sophomore from Waterloo, saw one minute of game action in each tourney game for Illinois College. He missed his only field goal attempt in Friday’s win.

For the season, Lenhardt played in 28 games for Illinois College, averaging 2.4 points per contest. He was 7-for-21 from three-point range and 31-for-41 at the free throw line.
