The Republic-Times Athlete of the Week is Freeburg-Waterloo Raging Bulldogs hockey player Layne Wilkens. The Gibault Catholic High School junior was a key member of a Raging Bulldogs squad that swept Triad in two games to capture the Mississippi Valley Club Hockey Association Varsity 1A championship last week. Wilkens netted a goal in last Monday’s win and two more in last Tuesday’s victory. For the season, Wilkens recorded 13 goals and 14 assists – including goals in each of his past five games.
