The Republic-Times Athlete of the Week is recent Waterloo High School graduate Kyle Kern. A distance runner for the Bulldogs, Kern placed third in the 3,200 meter run at the IHSA Class 2A State Track Meet in Charleston on Saturday with a finish time of 9:22.70. Earlier this spring, Kern set a new school record in the event with a time of 9:18.94.
