Joseph Melville Shinn

Joseph  Melville  Shinn, 86, of Millstadt, formerly of Cahokia, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, in Millstadt.

He was born April 14, 1927, in Clarksburg, W.V.  Joseph was retired from the Defense Mapping Agency in St. Louis. He was a member of Cahokia Park United Methodist Church and the Sigma Chi fraternity. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ruth, nee Hyde, Shinn. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Ruth J. Shinn, nee Joyce; his children, JoAnn (Mike) Weber of Indianapolis, Ind., Deborah (Rick) Clarkson of Columbia, and Fred (Michele) Shinn of Waterloo; eight grandchildren, Matt (Tami) Weber, Jenny (Pat) Meredith, Chris Weber, Tim Clarkson, Bryan Clarkson, Andrew Clarkson, Skyler Shinn, and Hannah Shinn; and seven great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Brody, Jalen, Sidney, Andrew, Emma, and  Evan.  He was a dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend.

The family of Mr. Shinn would like to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice and Millstadt Senior Center for the wonderful care given to Joseph.

Memorials may be made to the Cahokia Nursing and Rehab Center Activity Fund. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 20 at Braun Family Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted 12:30 p.m. Feb. 21, at the funeral home with Reverend Jim Schuetz officiating.

Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.
