John William Dover

John William Dover, 81, of Waterloo, died May 7, 2013, at Liberty Village of Maryville.

He was born Feb. 12, 1932, in Mound City, son of the late Mark and Mildred Dover (nee Hayes). He married his sweetheart, Patsy Sharon Woods, on Dec. 22, 1952; she survives in Waterloo.

Dover worked in the river barge industry. He retired from Cargill in 1987 as a marine supervisor after 29 years employment. He then worked for Riverway of St. Louis for 10 years until his final retirement in 1997 at the age of 65.

He loved his family and was a good provider. In his better days, Dover loved spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, gardening, doing yard work and taking long walks with his wife. He was a member of New Life Church, where he served in the nursing home ministry and enjoyed barbecuing for church picnics.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Patsy; daughters Marlene (Mark) Hinrichs of Fort Worth, Texas, Karen (Tim) Bray of Sullivan, Mo., and Angela (Doug) Williams of Frohna, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brothers Harry Dover of Villa Ridge, and Bobby (Judy) Dover of Olmsted.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, George Dover; sister Elaine; and brothers Mark Jr., Paul, Elmer and Mickey.

Visitation was May 12, at Young & Sons Funeral Home, Perryville, Mo.

Funeral services were May 13 at the funeral home, Pastor David Eckstadt officiating.

Interment followed at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Perryville, Mo.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
