The Republic-Times Athlete of the Week is Gibault Catholic High School senior basketball player Jacob Rueter. He was recently named to the Illinois Associated Press Class 1A All-State Team as an honorable mention alongside teammates and previous R-T Athlete of the Week honorees Trevor Davis and Brian Deterding.

The all-state team is voted on by a statewide panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. Rueter averaged 10.3 points and 6.1 assists per game this season for the regional and sectional champion Hawks.
