Injury rollover crash in Columbia

Shortly after 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Columbia police, fire and EMS personnel responded to a vehicle rollover with injury on southbound Route 3 just north of the Palmer Road exit.

Police said a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Paul M. Berry, 21, of St. Louis, was traveling on the eastbound I-255 exit ramp toward Route 3 south when the vehicle went off the roadway, striking a road sign and light pole. The car overturned, and Berry was ejected.

“Officers found Berry pinned under the vehicle unconscious,” Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards said. “Officers and EMS workers were able to lift the vehicle off of Berry and provide him aid.”

An ARCH Air Medical Services helicopter transported Berry to a St. Louis hospital. His current condition was not disclosed.

The crash is still under investigation, Edwards said.
