Red Bud Fire Department personnel assisted Illinois State Police and MedStar EMS in responding to a head-on crash that occurred about 9:20 a.m. Thursday at 10229 State Route 3 in Red Bud.

ISP said a 2007 Dodge Charger driven by Michael R. Steibel, 30, of Prairie du Rocher, was traveling north on Route 3 near Canter Road and attempted to turn left into a private drive, colliding head-on with a southbound 2000 Ford pickup driven by Joseph Walker, 34, of Crystal Springs, Miss., which was pulling an empty trailer.

Flying debris from the collision struck a 2006 Dodge van driven by Doris M. Liefer, 68, of Red Bud, which was stopped in a private drive.

Steibel was transported by ambulance to Red Bud Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening. He was also cited for failure to yield and no seat belt. Walker and a passenger in his truck, 56-year-old Kenneth Harvey of Crystal Springs, Miss., were not injured, nor were Liefer and her passenger, 21-year-old Cassandra Duncan of Red Bud.
