Harvey A. Cowell

Harvey A. “Bud” Cowell, 66, of Red Bud, died Jan. 11, 2014.
He was born July 4, 1947 to the late Harvey A. and Genevieve (nee Raffl) Cowell in Red Bud.

He married Adele Saliba on Dec. 1, 1968 in Glendale, Arizona; she survives him.

He had been a firefighter for the Jennings Fire Department for 10 years.

He then went to work for Dynergy for 32 years.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church since 1981.

He was also a member of the Knight of Columbus #12152 in Red Bud and Local #51 in Springfield.

He also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Red Bud Fire Department for many years. He was an avid boater and avid motorcyclist.

He was also an Air Force Veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Adele Cowell, children Jeffrey (Cheri) Cowell and Susan Cowell, sister Betty (Jim) Oliver, stepmother Phyllis Cowell and grandchildren Alyssa, Blake, Nolan and Payton Cowell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lois Smith.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Jan. 17 and 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Jan 18 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud.

A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Jan. 18 at the church, with Msgr. Dennis Schaefer and Fr. Clyde Grogan officiating.

Interment will follow at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Red Bud.

Memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. John the Baptist Catholic School or Vitas Hospice in Fairview Heights.
