Gregory August Kipping | Obituary

Gregory August Kipping, 85, of Waterloo, died Aug. 21, 2014 in Waterloo.

Mr. Kipping was born Jan. 10, 1929 in Valmeyer, son of the late August C. and Margaret Kipping, nee Mathews.

He was a construction worker and a business owner. He was a member of the Knights of Columbia Chapter 1334 and a third degree Knight, Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo, past and reorganizer of the Waterloo Sportsman’s Club, former Democratic County Chairman and Committeeman for 14 years; founding member of the Optimist Club, chief deputy of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department for four years; blood drive chairman for four years; a partner in Kipping and Mathews International Service Center in Waterloo and a real estate broker.

Mr. Kipping is survived by children Terry (Doris) Kipping, Jenelle Palmer, Kim (Gerald) Straub and Jeff (Laura) Kipping, all of Waterloo; sister Marcella Boehne of Waterloo, nine grandchildren, Greg (Heather) Kipping of Waterloo, Christine (Dave) Otten of Columbia, Melissa (Milton) Kipping-Sherfy of South Roxana, Cassy (Chad) Goldschmidt of Columbia, Carl Diehl of Clayton, Mo., Liette (Jason) Goeddel of Waterloo, Bethany Kipping of Olathe, Kan., Stuart Straub of Waterloo and Ethan Kipping of Waterloo ; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruby Kipping and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 24 and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 25 at DeFabio Funeral Home in Waterloo.

A funeral service will take place  10:30 a.m. Aug. 25 at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Waterloo.

Memorials may be made to Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School.
